hypoallergenic dogs - Practical Grooming Tips - The Apex Herald

Only a groomer that has been professionally trained and has attended and completed a grooming training program with hands-on and is a certified groomer will have the skills to be able to groom, style, cut nails, pluck ears and do anal glands safely. An experienced groomer will know to clean ears and cut nails and externally express anal glands, but it never hurts to ask when you schedule your petās appointment. If your dog has very hairy ears and is prone to ear infections please make sure your groomer can pluck the ears without causing more inflammation. If you have a dog with droopy ears that are heavily haired like spaniels you may want to ask the groomer to shave the underside of the ear flap to help allow a bit more air circulation into the canals. If you bathe your dog at home in-between a regularly scheduled grooming please make sure you clean and dry the ears after the bath so that the inside of the ears donāt stay wet. Find out what kind of shampoos and conditioners your groomer is using and try to schedule the time of the pets groom so that if you use topical products like Advantage, Frontline or Revolution you can apply it after the groom as most shampoos will remove any topical product.
